Those of you who live in London and do Oriental food shopping would understand the pain of shopping in a chinese cash&carry - the aisles are much too narrow, too many customers huddled within the shop space (it must be against fire safety regulations) etc etc.
However, the latest supermarket to hit town was a delight to shop in, not to mention you also get a 5% discount if you show your Peninsula Restaurant receipt (of which we are regular customers er-hem). First of all, it's all nice and new. The supermarket is actually a supermarket and not a warehouse. There is air-conditioning and chinese pop-hits playing in the background. The selection is great, with an abundance of Malaysian and Singaporean imports, hell, they even have my beloved Brahim's! There's a little cafe within the supermarket to have coffee and chinese bakery snacks. You can even pay by card!!! OK, i guess the catch is that things are a tad more expensive, but it was nice to shop and actually browse the aisles. I didn't even have to go in "war" mode where you have a list in your head, chiong to get the stuff and chiong to queue up at the never-ending till - the whole outing taking less than 30 mins. In fact, we stopped at every single aisle. How's that even possible?
It was all very pleasant and civilised, to my delight.
Currently doing: Recovering from a bout of general malaise. I think i've caught a cold or sumthing. Feel really ill and my joints ache. Maybe its just rheumatism. And i'm supposed to be on holiday! Poo. Poo. Poo.
